Dr. Kelvin Spragley is the associate executive director for the North Carolina Association of Educators. NCAE is a professional organization that represents 77,000 active and retired school employees.
Spragley began his new position on July 1, 2001.
Prior to becoming the associate executive director for NCAE, he served as an Education Consultant for the association.
As an Education Consultant, Spragley organized statewide instructional conferences, as well as assisting in NCAE lobbying efforts in instructional research and in licensure and certification. He also conducted workshops on various instructional issues, assisted in writing position papers, and attended statewide committee and commission meetings.
He has also served as a classroom teacher in the Wake County Public School system. His duties included teaching sixth and eighth grade social studies, technology, and African-American studies. He also served as chair of the African-American History Month Extravaganza and was co-chair of the School Improvement Team.
Spragley also developed and wrote curriculum at the local level, which focused on test preparation for middle school students. He also assisted in writing Module 2 for the state lateral entry program, NC TEACH.
During Spragley's teaching career, he also served as a SOS/After-School Coordinator for Wake County Public Schools. Some of his responsibilities included meeting with former Governor Jim Hunt weekly to discuss program success and to schedule tutoring sessions involving Hunt and students in the program.
Spragley also has served in the United States Army were he was responsible for supplying and arming the AH 64 Apache attack helicopter with rockets. He also served as squad leader during his stint in the military.
Spragley earned his Associate's degree in History and Social Studies from Chowan College and his Bachelor of Science degree in History and Social Studies Education from East Carolina University. He has also earned his Ph.D and Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from North Carolina State University.
