In January of 2009, the NCAE Board of Directors named Scott Anderson as Executive Director and charged him with directing the over 70 members of the NCAE staff in carrying out the mission and vision of the organization.
From 2005 to 2009, Anderson worked for the National Education Association (NEA), NCAE’s parent organization. During his tenure at NEA, Scott worked on various membership and organizational projects including membership recruitment and retention, organizational capacity and coalition building, strategic program development and implementation, and political organizing in the Government Relations and Campaigns and Elections departments.
Scott’s background is rooted in policy, communications, and political organizing. Prior to working with the NEA, Scott served as Special Advisor for Policy and Communications to Governor Mike Easley, was an advisor to former South Carolina Governor Jim Hodges, and on the staff of former Florida Speaker of the House of Representatives Peter R. Wallace. He served as a senior staff member on two presidential campaigns, managed gubernatorial races, and directed legislative caucus programs in Florida and South Carolina.
“Scott Anderson brings a wealth of knowledge, enthusiasm and experience with him that we believe will benefit NCAE right now,” NCAE President Sheri Strickland said. “He is a strategic thinker as well as someone who works hard, is innovative and is very committed to educational issues.”
Anderson holds a B.S. in political science from Florida Southern College. He is married to DeLana Morgan Anderson, a former middle school algebra teacher, and they have two daughters, Morgan and Emma Claire who attend Oak Grove Elementary School in Wake County. Scott is involved in various charitable organizations, is a member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church, coaches soccer, and is actively involved in the YMCA Princess-Guides Program with his daughters.
