The Martin Luther King, Jr., Scholarshipwas established by the North Carolina Association of Educators MinorityAffairs Commission.
Funds for this Scholarship consist of contributionsreceived from proceeds of the North Carolina Association of Educators AnnualMartin Luther King, Jr., Banquet.
The number and amount of scholarship awardswill be determined by the amount of money received annually from the proceeds.
GUIDELINES FOR ADMINISTERING THE SCHOLARSHIP
1. Current receipts of the Scholarshipshall be deposited in a checking account in Wachovia Bank and Trust Company,Raleigh, and shall be added to the Scholarship Fund after the auditingof the books at the end of the fiscal year.
2. Applicants must be North Carolina residentsenrolled in a high school program. They must be in their SENIOR YEAR INHIGH SCHOOL.
3. Other selection criteria are character,personality, and scholastic achievement of the applicant. Individuals meetingthe above qualifications may request application forms from the State NCAEOffice.
4. The applicant must send a completedapplication package:
(a) a completed application form
(b) a complete official transcriptwith a GPA of at least 3.5 on a 5.0 scale and a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
(c) two letters of recommendations:one letter must be from the applicant’s school and one from the student’s home community. These letters of reference must be given to the applicantin a sealed envelope to be included in the completed package.
All required materials must be postmarkedno later than February 1. Mail all materials to theState NCAE Office to the attention of the NCAE Martin Luther King, Jr.,Scholarship Committee, PO Box 27347, Raleigh, NC 27611.
5. The applicant is responsible for supplyingall materials required for consideration for the scholarship.
6. A screening committee will review applicationsand select winners and alternates. The recipients will be recognized atthe NCAE Annual Awards Banquet.
7. The scholarship money will only be distributed during the fall and spring semesters of your freshman year. The scholarship recipient must notify NCAE of enrollment from the college/university of his/her choice by mailing an official proof of enrollment (such as an official letter and/or class schedule). This proof of enrollment must include the student identification number as well as provide the college/university’s mailing address in order to receive the scholarship money. NCAE shall assume the responsibility for forwarding the scholarship money directly to the college/university. If the applicant has not notified NCAE of an enrollment in a college/university of his/her choice by October 31 of each year, the money will revert to the Scholarship Fund.
8. The recipient(s) is requested to returnto NCAE any money not used by the recipient(s).
