NCAE'S WORK IN THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY --  The Association has seven registered lobbyists working on behalf of its members. In its 1999 Legislative Agenda, NCAE lobbied for, and won:

   Non-Certified Personnel Salary Funds/Teacher Assistant Salary Funds
A 3 percent salary increase effective July 1, 1999, plus a $125 bonus in the first pay period. Part-time bus drivers received a bonus of $62.50.
   Prescription Drug Benefit -- Provides for prescription drug benefit as part of the state employee health benefits at 90 percent of the average wholesale price. A dispensing fee of $6 is allowed by the pharmacy paid by the Plan. The employee is responsible for a co-pay up to $10 for a generic prescription, $15 for a brand  name, or $20 for a brand name when there is a generic equivalent.

FULL MEMBERSHIP AND VOTING RIGHTS -- During the 1999 NCAE Convention, the Association made history by passing the historic amendment that granted full membership to education support personnel. Sixty-seven percent of convention delegates voted to approve the amendment, the only one of six considered that passed. ESPs can now exercise their right to vote in annual NCAE elections.
