May 1 Day of Action

On May 1, 2025, NCAE members will join with our co-workers, students and parents, and community allies to hold creative actions across the state to Stop the Billionaire Agenda.
May 1 Rally

Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and their billionaire buddies are trying to wipe out the public school system as we know it. Their billionaire agenda might be good for the top 1% of the 1%, but the vast majority of working-class families depend on their local public school.

Public schools are where we teach our kids the basics of reading, writing, and math. They are also the heart of our local communities and the engine of our state economy. But their future is under attack.

Dismantling the U.S. Department of Education, historically low per pupil spending at the state level, and the failure at the local level to adequately invest in district has created crisis conditions in our public schools.

We must fight against the Trump-Musk agenda everywhere and fight for our shared vision of a multiracial, working-class-led democracy that begins with public education. Now is the time to lead, to unite public school families, and to truly put students first.

On May 1, NCAE and our community partners will be hosting May Day events across North Carolina to Stop the Billionaire Agenda and protect our public schools—at every level of government.

A leading voice for educational excellence

The North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) is our leading voice for educational excellence, for children and their families, and for the public schools they count on. As the public school employees union and the largest association of professional educators in North Carolina, our membership extends to all 100 counties and includes teachers, non-classified school staff, administrators, students, retirees, and community allies. NCAE believes that every child has a right to a high-quality education, an excellent teacher, and a well-funded school.
