Page High School teacher Elizabeth Hackney is the finalist from North Carolina for the National Education Association (NEA) Foundation’s prestigious California Casualty Award for Teaching Excellence in 2023. This award recognizes, rewards and promotes excellence in teaching and advocacy for the profession.
Today the North Carolina General Assembly introduced a monster anti-public education bill that would strip our students of basic rights and attempt to drive a wedge between parents and educators. Tamika Walker Kelly, president of the North Carolina Association of Educators released the following statement.
The North Carolina Association of Educators supports policies that help all North Carolinians decide how and when to grow their families. We urge lawmakers to focus on helping create more ways for working families to prosper, rather than limiting peoples’ rights as Senate Bill 20 does.
The North Carolina Association of Educators strongly oppose the passage of SB-49. We urge lawmakers to prioritize setting students up for success rather than putting forth legislation that threatens their safety and well-being.
