Raleigh, NC – The North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) today condemned legislative leaders for once again putting partisan politics ahead of the needs of students, families, and educators across the state.

“North Carolinians have been calling on our legislators to finalize a state budget for months. Students, parents, and educators have been demanding that lawmakers fully fund our public schools for years. The fact that the General Assembly can move with lightning speed to redraw political maps for partisan gain—but can’t find the same urgency to invest in our schools and communities—is shameful. It’s clear that the people of North Carolina are not their priority.

Our state is losing talented educators who are moving to other states or leaving the profession entirely so they can earn a living wage and see their work valued. Instead of addressing that crisis, legislators are chasing power by redrawing districts. Our students can’t afford more political games. It’s time for lawmakers to do their job.”
