Raleigh, NC - The North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) is calling for the immediate resignation of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem. Under Noem’s leadership, DHS and its Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) division have expanded aggressive enforcement operations in cities nationwide, including in Charlotte and now Minneapolis, Minnesota — a surge that has resulted in multiple fatal shootings involving federal agents.
“Enough is enough," said Tamika Walker Kelly, NCAE President. "Secretary Noem’s reckless mismanagement of DHS and ICE has harmed communities across this country and, in Minneapolis, has now cost multiple lives. To make matters worse, she has repeatedly misrepresented the facts to the American people, the very people her department is entrusted to protect. Secretary Noem must resign for the safety of our children, the security of our communities, and the health of our nation.”
We are also calling on North Carolina’s lawmakers of every level - federal, state, and local - to stand with us in calling for the protection of all communities by calling for an end to these unconstitutional raids.
