Raleigh, NC - The North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) is proud to congratulate North Carolina voters and the newly elected Democratic majority in the North Carolina House of Representatives. With this result, the people's chamber has new leadership for the first time in more than 15 years, and public schools will have a real seat at the table when the next budget is written.
“North Carolina voters sent a clear message: our public schools are not for sale," said NCAE President Christina Cole. "For years, legislative leaders have handed out corporate tax cuts and private school vouchers while our classrooms went without. Educators knocked doors, made calls, and talked with their neighbors about what was at stake for our students, and voters answered by electing a House that will put public schools first. We congratulate the new majority and look forward to working with them. Tomorrow, we get back to work. We will hold every legislator accountable for fully funding our public schools, paying educators what they've earned, and putting kids over corporations.”
