NCAE Statement on NC Senate Budget Proposal

The Senate budget prioritizes irresponsible tax cuts over our students, schools, and public school families.
Published: April 14, 2025

Raleigh, NC – The North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) today released the following statement in response to the NC Senate's state budget proposal.

“We want North Carolina’s public schools to be the best in the nation. We want our students to be successful and our school employees to be compensated fairly for their hard work and expertise. We can do all of that through smart investments and responsible budgeting like we see in Governor Stein’s proposed budget.

On the other hand, the Senate budget prioritizes irresponsible tax cuts over our students, schools, and public school families. A 2.3% raise for teachers and 1.25% for school employees won’t even match the rate of inflation.

The Senate budget fails to meet the needs of working-class families and lacks the vision for public schools that our students deserve."
