Raleigh, NC – The North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) today called on state lawmakers to end the ongoing budget stalemate and prioritize passing a full state budget for the benefit of educators, public schools, and all North Carolinians.

A new biennial budget was due to take effect on July 1, but disagreements between the Senate and House have left the state without one. As a result, state employees—including educators—have received no pay increases, even as the cost of living and health plan premiums continue to rise.

“It’s been more than two months since North Carolina should have had a new budget. That’s two months of lawmakers neglecting educators and state employees. That’s two months of neglecting our students and the public schools that serve them. We are calling on lawmakers to stop delaying, stop neglecting the people of North Carolina, and do what should have been done in July: pass the state budget.”

- Tamika Walker Kelly, NCAE President
