Raleigh, NC — The North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) today called on state lawmakers to uphold Governor Josh Stein’s vetoes of Senate Bill 227, Eliminating DEI in Public K–12 Education, and Senate Bill 228, Eliminating DEI in Public Higher Education.

“Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion aren’t political talking points—they’re the values that make our public schools safe, welcoming, and strong. When we eliminate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, we tell our students and educators that some of them don’t belong. Every child, no matter their background, deserves to feel seen, respected, and valued for who they are. Our schools should reflect the communities they serve, not erase them. Public schools are for everyone.”

- Tamika Walker Kelly, NCAE President
