“Our students deserve honesty in education, rooted in facts and truth. Loving America and what it stands for means learning about our history, both good and bad. If we censor our history and ignore today’s challenges, we will never live up to our ideals of liberty and justice for all."
"We stand together during these difficult moments, sending love and healing thoughts to the victim's family, our fellow educators and school employees who without a doubt did everything possible to protect their students, and the entire community that has been wounded today."
Both the NC House & NC Senate have now passed state budget proposals which would cut corporate income taxes but do virtually nothing to address the state Supreme Court rulings meant to help rural school districts which struggle to recruit and retain qualified teachers.
"We are disappointed that both chambers continue to ignore the will of the public to invest the billions of dollars that are currently unspent in the state’s coffers, which could be put to work immediately addressing the needs of our schools. Our students need, and deserve, better.”
“On behalf of our students and educators we thank Governor Cooper for taking these commonsense steps to keep all North Carolinians as safe as possible from this increasingly dangerous Delta variant,” said Tamika Walker Kelly, president of the North Carolina Association of Educators.
"In the face of dramatically rising COVID infections among unvaccinated North Carolinians in the past several weeks due to the Delta variant, and schools preparing to open for the new school year, this seems a very poorly timed decision," said Tamika Walker Kelly, President of NCAE.
“As professionals, educators believe that all students deserve honesty in education, rooted in facts and truth, even if some of those facts are difficult and even if some of the truths about the history of North Carolina and the United States make some feel uncomfortable,” said NCAE President Tamika Walker Kelly.
"We are pleased that the CDC has reiterated the necessity of keeping unvaccinated students masked for their own protection," said Tamika Walker Kelly, president of NCAE.
With public support in their corner and some schools struggling to keep a well-qualified teacher in every classroom, the North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) is launching a six-figure digital ad buy calling on state lawmakers to prioritize students and support better funding for public schools in the new 2021-23 state budget.
