During yesterday’s visit to Charlotte, Vice President Kamala Harris announced $285 million in national funding for school mental health through the Safer Communities Act. North Carolina is expected to received $12 million or the equivalent of 332 new mental health counselors.

Today, the North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) announced its endorsement of Maurice “Mo” Green for Superintendent of Public Instruction. This award recognizes, rewards and promotes excellence in teaching and advocacy for the profession.

Today the North Carolina General Assembly introduced a monster anti-public education bill that would strip our students of basic rights and attempt to drive a wedge between parents and educators. Tamika Walker Kelly, president of the North Carolina Association of Educators released the following statement.

The North Carolina Association of Educators supports policies that help all North Carolinians decide how and when to grow their families. We urge lawmakers to focus on helping create more ways for working families to prosper, rather than limiting peoples’ rights as Senate Bill 20 does.

The North Carolina Association of Educators strongly oppose the passage of SB-49. We urge lawmakers to prioritize setting students up for success rather than putting forth legislation that threatens their safety and well-being.

“The majority of North Carolinians want strong, successful public schools for our families and our communities. Together, we can work across lines of difference to ensure our public schools meet the needs of every student, prepare them for the future, and make our state a better place to live.”

With the release of the initial NC Senate budget proposal, the North Carolina Association of Educators is urging lawmakers to prioritize students and fund North Carolina’s future in the final state budget.
